The Conservative Monday Club pledges its loyalty to the Crown and opposes
in the strongest terms any interference to our Judiciary, Parliament or
economy by Brussels.
Our history, culture and the British spirit of free enterprise must be
preserved and promoted..
The Club believes that the rights of law abiding citizens are a priority
and that existing legislation requires amending to reflect this.
The Club believes that the wishes of the British people to reintroduce
capital punishment should be implemented.
The Club would welcome and support firmly a continual zero tolerance
campaign by the police, as most minor crime, if unchecked, becomes the
forerunner to more serious offences.
We believe that all asylum seekers should be processed without delay.
Those found to be illegal immigrants should be deported immediately.
Immigrants seeking British citizenship, which takes four years, should
agree to receive tuition, if need be, in English.
Any immigrant who during that four years is convicted of a serious
criminal offence should be denied British citizenship, as is the procedure
in many other Western countries.
Anyone being offered United Kingdom citizenship must be able to show
that they can use English as a first language.
The Club strongly supports traditional Conservative values:
The promotion of the family unit.
The right of individuals to pass on their benefits to their children.
The embracing of Christian teaching and morals.
The support of the Monarchy and the Constitution.
Resistance to "political correctness".
History has a habit of repeating itself. The Club believes it is paramount
that the Government maintains a highly efficient and modern defence
force. Vigilance and readiness to combat aggression are essential to
our safety.
High standards in education and discipline are best served by more variety,
extending parental choice and rewarding capable educators whilst eliminating
waste. We advocate syllabuses which equip pupils for the changing needs
of Society; the apprenticeship system in industries must be re-established
as a priority.
The "3 R's" need support and the restoration of grammar schools
should be actively encouraged.
Our historical sense of identity and national pride in our country's
heritage must be fostered, taught and passed on to future generations
by professional and qualified teachers.
The Club affirms the belief that children should be taught the elements
of the Christian Faith, which is the foundation of the nation and its
heritage, while also being tolerant of other religions.
Student unions should be funded voluntarily, not from the public purse.
The National Health Service must be efficient in dispensing care for
the British people.
The cost of the social welfare society must be reduced to enable those
in greatest need, who are unable to help themselves, to continue to
receive state support and benefits.
Every means must be taken to combat fraud and to stop state aid to
those who are not entitled to benefit, or who have no real need of state
support.
Private pension and investment schemes must continue to receive Government
backing thus reducing dependency on Government social welfare.
We believe that all are entitled to the essential freedoms under just
laws, determined by our elected representatives in Britain - not by
unelected bureacrats in Brussels.
The Judicial system should remain British for British citizens.
We believe that the House of Lords should be retained as an effective
second chamber, which benefits from the wealth of experience from hereditary
peers.
We reject any system of proportional representation, in the belief
that it is even less representative of public opinion than the existing
system.
British foreign policy should actively promote British power and influence
and have good relations with all foreign countries which support our
interests and the rights of the United Kingdom and its subjects throughout
the world.
Overseas aid and the funding of agencies must be carefully monitored
and reduced.
We must retain the right to withdraw from the European Union and there
must be no external interference in any form in the affairs of the United
Kingdom.
High taxation always undermines national prosperity, incentives for
enterprise, work and competition; so death duties and Capital Gains
Taxes must be abolished. This would save millions of pounds in costly
and unproductive bureaucracy. It is vital to reduce Government expenditure
and the National Debt.
